Pollution and the Death of Man
I was hanging out late at night with my buddy, Tom, eating sushi in Richmond. We always have great chats about life, faith, relationships, and the usual. We got into a discussion about purpose and what kind of vision I wanted for my life. I really didn't know except for the fact that at some point in my life I wanted to make a difference somewhere. I guess you get used to the way things are and don't think about what kind of legacy you want to leave before you die. During our conversation, I was thinking about how my potential career opportunities can help in my endeavour to find meaning and purpose for my life.
I have great passion for Geography and I really hope that I get the Meteorological Observer position with Environment Canada. Tom, mentioned a book by Francis A. Schaeffer called "Pollution and the Death of Man: The Christian View of Ecology." It got me thinking about God and our relationship with nature. I can't think of many Christians involved in saving the environment and making Earth a better place to live in. Do Christians care about the environment and do they have a responsibility to care for God's creation? It's something I would be interested in investigating further. I placed an order from Amazon.com for the book by Schaeffer to inspire something within me.
There are two documentaries I'm interested in seeing when they come out on DVD. One's called "An Inconvenient Truth" starring Al Gore about global warming and the other, "Who Killed the Electric Car?" about the birth and death of the electric vehicle in the US, most notably GM's EV1.
There's a rumor that Toyota is coming out with a new Prius hybrid vehicle capable of producing 94 mpg (40 km/L) in 2008. The plan is to make the vehicle run soley on the electric motor in slow traffic with the gas engine kicking in for higher speeds. I'd definitely consider purchasing this vehicle if I have the money and in essence become more green.
Ecology is something that has sparked some interest and maybe I can do something with it.

Hey Arnold
An Inconveniet Truth is basically like the lecture on climate change from Geog 111, so there isn't a lot of controversial content in it. I'd say it's a renter. Who Killed the Electric Car i have not seen yet, but seems to be more provactive to me.

Who Killed the Electric Car is really depressing ...my friend and I saw it and our original plans to go out and eat afterwards never happened because we had to drive their in our gas-powered cars... lol. It is funny because the companies didn't just crush the cars, the shredded them and the technology for the electric cars can't get passed on "intellectual property" was made SUPER confidential.. strange huh? ANYWAY, GO SEE IT... but make sure you aren't planning in doing anything that requires extra Hype cuz it will depress you a bit
